Re: missionaries on campus

but even still the principles you describe being taught are quite standard for most all Chinese culture.
Wrong again! Not only is the concept of a personal God unknown in Chinese culture and the Chinese mindset nor is there anything in terms of salvation that Christianity teaches - the salvation of the individual; the traditional Chinese mindset is collectivist and opposed to individualism and its values, Hence, it follows that any ethical or moral teaching that exists in traditional Chinese thought, culture and society aims at the well-being of the group, not the individual. Human rights as known in the West refer to the right of individuals, not that of a group. That's why the Chinese have a problem with it as well as privacy. Christian Ethics consequently refers to benefits for the individual derived from these ethical principles.
Therefore, you are totally wrong in saying even still the principles you describe being taught are quite standard for most all Chinese culture. To state something like this is very superficial and not well thought out, to say the least.

One guy who is Chinese even suggested that a lot of the corruption and cheating that is endemic in Chinese society compared to in the West, because there is a lack of a moral framework, no need to worry about a heaven and hell etc, whereas if you grow up in the West, your morals and ethics are likely to be shaped by religious values in some way, even if you are atheist like me. It is something that one could discuss for hours, I can think of reasons to suggest that he is both wrong and correct at the same time.
