What you have said kind of makes sense, but a lot of them are also married men.

Somebody did say something about nonces usually feeling powerless and helpless deep down, unable to talk to grown women properly etc. This relates to common theory that the abused often become abusers, I guess.

I have indirect experience of this, a father of a friend, who was also my R.E teacher got sent down for kiddy porn. The worse thing about it all for me was that outside of school, I thought he was a decent guy, a bit straight laced but out of school he'd be tolerant of me and my mates getting pissed up during our teens, was a friendly chap despite being rather strict in class.

The day before it got revealed in the press that he had been found guilty and was due to be sentenced, I was at my mate's house having a few beers before we went to the pub and he seemed rather worried, when he said goodbye to me and my other friends when leaving the house, it was not so much a casual goodbye, but a rather sincere looking 'goodbye for good' it seemed, his voice was rather croaky, he had a tear in his eye.

I couldn't work it out at the time, I was a bit drunk and thought nothing of it, just that he might be having a bad day or something. Then the next day... Local front page news. I was never to see him again. Which as an angry, hormonal, impressionable teenager at the time that would do stupid things, that was actually a good thing.

It affected my mate in a very bad way, he started smoking again, abusing alcohol to rather unsociable levels, got arrested for drink driving, he went downhill a fair bit.

What he say about his Dad which was interesting though... He was referred to a psychologist (or voluntarily sought the help of one) for counselling prior to serving the custodial sentence when it came, and apparently his background played a huge role in what happened. Growing up as an orphan, he developed a curiosity relating to young girls that he had been shielded from during his childhood. It was not said if he had been abused himself in the orphanage though.

However my mate will not deny in the slightest that what his father did was wrong and it appears that he rarely speaks to him these days.
