Not too sure that western countries, especially the USA, can hold claim to respect for animals, I'd never eat mcdonalds for the simple reason that when you eat one of their beef burgers you are eating from any number of cows, and their chicken nuggets, just go to youtube, disgusting. Also as to liberal values, look at the christians who attack abortion clinics and their staff in the US, army of god I think, and mormons who preach that jesus was american etc etc. Then you have faith based schools in the UK teaching that aids/hiv is the wages of sin....Christianity if it is part and parcel of western values is not much better, sorry to say.
