Re Cleaning up the ESL industry!

My impression is that the poster you are replying to doesn't know what an "independent
regulatory body" really is. [edited]

I agree with you.

Some people have keyboards that get carried away with the moment.

Re Cleaning up the ESL industry!

Please not that this is affiliated with the Spanish education authority. You are just trying
to cover yourselves after saying that private schools weren't regulated, when in fact,
they are!

The only real Educational Regulatory Body anywhere is a Statutory Body set up and governed by statute with statutory powers granted by the the laws passed in country's parliament. This means an official inspector has the powers to force statutory changes upon any school or even close it down.

Associations are different, they are clubs paid for by their members to form a unified front to act as lobbyists for their members interests in the event of something going wrong or some law not to the liking of their members.

By the Great Architect.... The image begining to form in my mind about these associations is a bit like the Freemasons.

Re Cleaning up the ESL industry!

Taken directly from the NABSS site:

  • In order for a school to be a member of NABSS, they must fulfil the criteria of `Britishness´ published on this website and achieve full authorisation, via British inspection, from the appropriate Spanish authorities.
  • The rigour of the NABSS inspection system, and of the authorisation process itself, provides a yardstick for parents and teachers, who are choosing schools in Spain.
  • The National Association of British Schools in Spain insists on regular inspection of member schools and provides continuous professional training for Heads and teachers throughout Spain.
  • Nabss is held in high regard by both the Spanish and British educational authorities and is consulted on new developments. The Association enjoys a very strong relationship with the British Council in Spain, and Council members sit on the Inspection Monitoring Committee.
  • Please not that this is affiliated with the Spanish education authority. You are just trying to cover yourselves after saying that private schools weren't regulated, when in fact, they are!

Surely a real regulatory body should be a country's Ministry of Education where inspectors have powers authorised by law.

    independent regulatory bodies

    That's interesting.

Surely a real regulatory body should be a country's Ministry of Education where inspectors have powers authorised by law.

Independent bodies raise their funds for inspections from their association's membership fees, so someone of an illuminati nature may very well think that relying on membership fees means they can't really be totally independent, especially as NABSS says on http://www.nabss.org/index.php/en/about-us

"The National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS) exists to defend members' interests...."
    Defend member's interests against whom?

And what sanctions would these Training Centre Clubs be able to dole out to recalcitrate members - maybe take away their membership cards?

You don't care about independent regulatory bodies? But you said they were important! Perhaps it's just because you don't know what they are? And bothering to find out would undermine your position of blanket hatred and ignorance when it comes to private schools?

The fact is? No, no, Turnoi... The fact is you don't know everything (indeed it seems anything) about private schools in Europe and how they are regulated and you'd rather remain willfully ignorant on the subject! You have no facts, just your uninformed opinion! Period!
