Re: Pima Vegetable Question

Thanks Jack for the Japanese, "pimen".
A Korean student corrected my pronounciation last evening and showed me how to write it. He said "pimang" was correct. "Gochu" is the Korean word for hot chili. The Japanese got the chili pepper from the Portuguese traders in the early 1500s and maybe "pimento" is Portuguese. I'll have to check a Portuguese dictionary.

Probably from the word "pimento" which is after all a form of
pepper I believe. The Japanese word for hot pepper is exatly
tht -> pimen.

Pima Vegetable Question

Recently in Korea children call a sweet bell pepper a pima. Where are they getting this pima word? Maybe California? I just checked an English and a Spanish dictionary with no luck.
