I think there are all sorts of reasons why Westerners still go to China to teach.
Please do not forget the fact that freshman Chinese college females will not realize that by Western standards their FT is ugly and a failure (and perhaps deranged).
Nowhere else in the developed world would he be allowed to enter a classroom as a teacher. For that matter, nowhere else in the world would any group of people listen to what he has to say without chuckling or grimacing and walking away.

I think there are all sorts of reasons why Westerners still go to China to teach. For example, enjoying teaching very respectful students, being able to save more money, longer vacations, shorter working hours, and more autonomy at work, compared to teaching in the West.
Such Westerners do due diligence online before accepting a teaching job to ensure they won't end up being mistreated by a disreputable employer of FTs in the country.
