That is a really shit job. I've put tongue and groove (clip lock) flooring on batons before but directly on the concrete floor ( hardwood batons on the concrete and flooring on top. That insulation looks horrible, some type of chipboard. In fact Fifi is right, often this stuff can contain formaldehyde and other nasties. A bit off topic but I checked out a new hotel in Pattaya several weeks back, very luxurious but when I looked at the rooms I could smell formaldehyde probably coming from all the wood paneling in there. I said "thanks but no thanks".
This is a quiet estate without dogs (I think you are under the deed-of-covenant allowed a toy poodle-sized creature) however, all the noise comes from the floorboards, to such an extent that one tenant is moving out shortly, because she can't stand it. Not to worry, at least I am curing my boards.
I hope it wasn't the age of that particular Pattayan lady that she needed formaldehyde to keep body and soul together. You might feel shortchanged if you got a bit passionate and pulled her leg off Hahaha!

Of course, Taffy, you are aware that old construction materials might contain asbestos, right?
Plus lead and chemicals that will be released when you tear the whole thing down.

I know you are not talking to me, Taffy. but still I have to say what the construction persons did by placing the batons (we call this 2 x 4) on the isolation layer is horrible. It's one of the worst construction mishaps I ever saw.
If I said that I was in error; if one posts on a forum one should answer all, otherwise we create cliques.
Multi-skilled, eh! that's impressive. I have de-groaned that area- just two more areas in the lounge to attend to, then I can think about the 'Cumulus Cloud 9' underlay, which is bought and in the garage. We decided to relay the existing carpet, mainly because the logistics of moving furniture would be a nightmare.

Penetrated the sub-floor again in pursuit of halting the groaning and creaking. I see they have put the batons not directly on the concrete but on a layer of insulation so it'll be able to move. I mean, I'm not a civil engineer like SB was but neither am I Irish. I assume this state of affairs will not help with any creaking and groaning, SB?
