I can't really help with South America, but in Central America there are many many jobs available for native speaker teachers who are actually there. The majority of schools don't advertise on internet, but in local papers or just via word-of-mouth. I imagine the same thing applies in most of South America.
In Central America pay is very low, but so is the cost of living. It is a great place to get some teaching hours under your belt, and almost any job will open the door to better jobs later on.
Your best bet, if you can afford it, is just pack your bag and go.
Can any experienced teachers give me a few tips on my situation: I'm
recently graduated from Oxford Seminars with excellent teacher remarks
(60 hour tesol course). I'm seeking to work in South America or Hong
Kong. Would prefer to teach intermediates or advanced. Need experience
and don't have degree but have publishing/editing experience (my novel
can be viewed at www.lightstreambook.com) so my life's experience is
considerable. And two years of college with Awards of Excellence and
A+'s in Business English/Writing. I am hoping for a school contract
which would permit me to tutor also. Is Buenos Aires (sp?) stable again?
I have my conversational French and am working on Spanish. Any ideas?
