wanting to teach ESL

Please anyone, tell me if you know what the situation in Southern California is as far as getting into teaching ESL. Where I live there are so many native Spanish speakers and I speak some Spanish, have my BA in English,(from quite a while ago, but still it is a BA) 2 yrs teaching at County schools and about 5 yrs tutoring. Most of the students I have dealt with have been native Spanish speakers. Anyway for various reasons I don't want to travel overseas to work and I am wondering what is required to teach ESL here. I think you need to pass a test called TESL or else the TOEFL--and I am going to talk this week (once I can ever get ahold of them) to a couple of ESL instructors that work locally. I know there are lots of opportunities to volunteer and help people with their English but I need to be doing that other thing, uh, you know, actually making some money! Please help with any ideas or information,

Thank you, Suzanne
