1: "caused by" is wrong. I believe the word you're looking for is "perpetrated by". Bravo, English teacher! Please let me know when you're in Spain, I'll give you a dictionary to read. I dread to think of the howlers some of your poor students must make under your tutelage, although I use that word loosely of course.

2: Again, you appear to be confusing Muslims with extremists. The actions you listed are deplorable and I am appalled and saddened by them. I have never defended those actions and I never will.

However, they are committed by people who have twisted Islam to suit thier own murderous agenda. They are committed by radicalized elements, of which not every Muslim is. And therein lies the difference.

After the recent attacks in Paris, the Muslim community of Paris and around the world spoke out condemning the actions of the FOUR people involved. The many speaking out against the few. They are not all the same.

If you were able to discuss a topic without resorting to sweeping generalisations, you would understand this very simple fact.

During the recent siege in Sydney, Muslims were scared to go out fearing that non-muslims would have animosity towards them. This led to a Twitter hashtag trending... When the decent folk of Sydney heard of this worry, they started tweeting #illridewithyou and offering to escort thier Muslim neighbours to do their shopping, or take their kids to school. To stand with them in solidarity to show the radicals that they understand the difference between the actions of the few and the religion of the many. It's such a shame you don't share your countrymen's clarity.
