As the regulars on this forum drone on in complaint of the character of the Chinese people and the policies of the Chinese government, I would like to speak to readers that may be visiting this site because they are considering teaching in China.

If you are a young man or woman looking for a pre-career experience, or if you are an early retiree with some retirement income or assets, teaching in a Chinese University or public school can be a wonderful adventure. The majority of these institutions pay on-time, hire you legally, provide basic lodging, and treat you with deference.

You will not get rich. You will not build a career teaching in China. You will not become a permanent resident. But you will never forget the people that you meet, the places that you see, and the culture that you have tasted.

The contributors to this forum are eager and capable to express the pitfalls of teaching in China. Many of their caveats are valuable. The majority of these warnings refer to corporate training centers.

But I believe that each and every one of these contributors, in a quiet moment, has many treasured 'China stories' that they continue to share with their loved ones.
