Hi, I recently received a new student from Haiti and she knows very basic English. She is in 4th grade, and I service her with other 4th graders who are more advanced than she is. My question is: What are some strategies people have used for new students to help them get the most out of their time in ESL class? I feel like if she sits with my group, she only partially understands what is going on. I don't know where to start!!
