Yep, I agree!

In my teaching adventures here, I have found the same to be true as wise old sage Rheno says... (Those ancient scrolls survived for a reason!)

The various certificates are just that: certificates.

It's the level of compassion and dedication that a teacher brings to the job that counts.

I am lucky that two masters degrees (and years of previous teaching experience in the U.S.) allow me to circumvent TEFL requirements. But it's not my masters degrees that make me a good teacher (my students tell me I'm a good teacher). It's the fact that I truly love the work and I'm always looking for ways to be more effective. One of the best ways for me to have developed my skills in China was by REALLY listening to my students, and talking with Chinese colleagues. The more I can better understand the mindset of my students and the unique challenges they face, the more I can offer them.
