Raoul, I wasn't quite as clear as I should have been in my post. My bad. I think the TESOL cert is pretty much worthless, sure. However, I believe one should definitely have a college degree, especially if he teaches at a uni. And at some of those uni jobs, he should have a master's degree. A person with a bachelor's in education with a master's in TESOL would be almost ideal, in my opinion.
A person with a non-education bachelor's degree and a real TESOL isn't a teacher just because of his credentials. For this person, attitude determines if he is truly a teacher, along with his ability to put smiles on faces of course.
