I think you've misunderstood my Great Famine suggestion and I see you're wrong advising us that that was "no secret" then. At some point of the time, some of us had to learn from our loved ones that came from the nation that they had starved before they departed for our lands. Perhaps you starved with Mao so much that you couldn't remember what the world was like then. But in fact the facts are your living facts.

Events like the Great Famine or the Great Leap forward are in fact no "secrets", although not too well-known to Westernes who did not study Chinese. It was not a "secret" in my student days (beginning in 1968) when students in our Chinese Department had to study Mao's texts and other publications in Chinese where these events were either criticised or justified in terms of propaganda and counter-propaganda. Hence, there is nothing "secret" about it.
