Not sure, but there was definitely talk he lugged his pc tower thru beijing airport, and then onto Tianjin. Perhaps he didn't like laptops? As for buying a monitor there, probably a better idea...I do recall getting a decent wireless keyboard and mouse combo in a computer market there, infinitely better than the rubbish keyboard laptops come furnished with. A linux man eh? What do you use then, you bun too, or the polo distro?

Advice for anyone in the West without a laptop about to come to China to teach follows.

Don't buy one in the west. As laptops here in China are out of fashion, you can buy a 2nd hand one here for 1,500RMB. And a 26 cm monitor screen, Acer brand, for at most 1,200 RMB. Come over with a big suitcase. Then you'll be able to use it to transport your monitor screen around China, and back home when/if you choose to leave China for good!

Watching sports/movies/TV shows online on that size of monitor screen is much more enjoyable than using a laptop's inbuilt screen to do so.
