No, not at all fundamentalists if u mean they ban alcohol by that! Only 1 out of about 20 Muslim restaurants I've visited in Hohhot gave me some trouble in that respect! That other poster is correct. I have eaten fine food and drunk beer at Muslim restaurants ALL OVER CHINA, INCLUDING SHANXI.

BTW, a dish worth trying in a non-Muslim Chinese restaurant is called beef iron-board. Also available in Muslim restaurants!
