There are still hundreds of educational institutes who are desperately in need of FT's, yet they are still offering a 'pittance' of a salary.

Don't Do It !

If anyone is offering less than RMB12000 per month, give them a wide berth!

Chinese English teachers still rort the system by doing weekend classes for 30+ students who each pay RMB150. Just 3 classes on a Saturday can earn them around RMB15000 !

Ask them what a 'Tittle' is, a 'Pragmatic', or an 'Ellipsis' in English grammar, and they'll stare blankly at you. Many of them don't even think a comma is important in English!

I'm still getting daily e-mails from employers offering RMB5000 - 10000 per month, (for 9 or 10 months a year), yet China is screaming out for decent-quality FT's.

It's time for us all to stick together and sent out the same message. 'If you're not prepared to pay us a decent salary, then you'll have to manage with your Chinese English teachers.'

RMB12000 per month for 10 months, (most FT's don't get paid for the July and August summer holiday), equates to RMB10000 per month for 12 months. That's a reasonable salary for teaching ESL in China, and you can lead a perfectly good lifestyle. You can even save enough to be able to afford to go overseas during the holidays.

Training centres happily pay their 'deechers' this kind of money, yet universities expect the BEST quality FT's to work for around RMB5000 per month.
