So what does count as a suitable english degree then? English Literature, I sort of agree with T, it is not really useful for TEFL...unless you intend to bore your students to death with Shakespeare and Gothic literature and so on. A degree in international education/TESOL/Linguistics, is perhaps much more relevant....although if there are some TEFL jobs that require a English Lit degree holder, then it is useful for that I suppose.

Theology might provide a niche into some posher school, but then most who study theology will folllow it through to it's natural progression, the hallowed halls of academia or the church, and not go abroad to use it to teach. Some might become missionaries, I do not really know, but it is not TEFL related, that is for sure.
