I think Hillary supporters did not vote in greater numbers because they just assumed she
would win. The lesson is: don't assume you will win!
I saw a news item yesterday where Trump essentially said that he had 'wooed/courted' the Electoral College, rather than the people per se.
He said (words to the effect of) - 'I knew the system, so I played the system'.
Being a Brit/Aussie, this 'electoral college thing' is a unfamiliar to me, but a couple of American colleagues have been trying to help me understand how it works. That said, Clinton getting nearly 3 million more of the 'popular vote' than Trump got, yet still not winning, somehow just doesn't 'compute' in my brain.
1) People vote
2) Someone counts the votes
3) The person with the most votes wins
Isn't that the most basic, simple, principle of democracy? Or am I oversimplifying things?
