Dear Teachers,

Please be aware of some new scam going on on the internet by which some criminals are using our website information (INTERNATIONAL HOUSE PALMA DE MALLORCA) to attract trusting Extra-European EFL Teachers who would like to work in the EU (European Community) by offering incredible amounts of money as base salaries i.e. USD3.800/4.000 per month for just teaching EFL classes. BEWARE this is a trick as EFL salaries around Europe for initially qualified teachers (according to the British Council, an initially qualified teacher of English has undergone training leading to the University of Cambridge CELTA or Trinity College London Cert in TESOL) ranges between Euros 800 and 1.400 depending on hours, contract, local context, etc. Likewise, beware of their offering to obtain working visas for you and for asking for fees to do this or in some cases asking you to send them your passports. Unfortunately, we have been contacted by some teachers who were unwise enough to mail their passports or bank account numbers.

If someone is offering to sponsor you for a visa within the EU, please note that they should not ask you for money or original documents. All you may be asked to do is take certified photocopies of your passport to the nearest emabassy of the country your prospective employer resides for them to ad to the visa process. Please note this process is very long and as difficult as it would be for any other national to try and get a greencard in the US.

All we have been able to do is informe Spanish police about this and various other organisms related to the internet and these scams.

I strongly advise anyone in doubt to double check their prospective employers thoroughly in order to avoid surprises.
