Take care coming to Oman with regard to visas etc. You must make sure that your potential sponsor has started arranging your visa before you arrive. Many foreigners are in prison because of this and there is no duty of care on behalf of your sponsor, even though they are supposed to be responsible for you. Be especially careful about the language institutes that often take a long time to process your visa so you are illegal in the country. Public colleges for example are much faster at getting you legal status. If you end up in prison the only people who can and probably will help you are your embassy, so if you don't come from a country with a 'good' embassy (UK,Australia, Canada etc)or embassy presence here then be warned. This country is not 'a walk in the park' although it may seem that way-it is in fact a very strict place. drinking is probably a no-no really for those who like to party so dont take a job in Oman unless you are the sort of person who sips their drink. It is illegal to be drunk in Oman in public although alcohol is widely available in the bars in hotels and some expats have liquor licenses. How do you get home from the hotel bar? If you are stopped by the police...PRISON I must post this because of some terrible experiences i had in Oman.
