A while back my school here in China was looking for another foreign teacher and I was offered money to help it do so. I perused the resumes here and was quite surprised at the salaries some of the posters were requesting and in some cases "demanding." Some were laughably high. One guy said because of his experience he felt he deserved at least 20,000 yuan a month. That was extreme, of course, but figures like 8000 or 10000 are tossed about somewhat freely. I've been here a while and I've never seen an English job posting from any university anywhere in China that advertises any amount higher than 6000 yuan or so, even if the candidate has a masters or a Ph. D. Are these folks making these salary demands actually finding positions that meet them? I'm very curious.
