Okay, you come here under a signed contract and a Z visa. You've done what most people now do. That is, you've gotten your letter of intent to hire etc. that has smoothed the way for you to get your legal visa. Then you get here and find out that most of what you've been promised is does not quite align itself with reality. Now what? They're waving the contract in your face. Better be sure that contract stipulates each and everything along with a description of the apartment you'll be living in. Of course it won't and they won't care. You could insist on an addendum, but that will meet with some serious resistance.

My advice, come here on a tourist or business visa. Check things out. Do some traveling - find out which province or municipality suits you best. Talk to the schools personally. See the classroom, the apartment. Do some serious negotiating. Discuss your professional background and/or education and what you hope to accomplish. Make them want you and then make them willing to pay you what you deserve. Even then, be skeptical - for example, talk to other teachers in the area.

Hard to do all that from afar. On the other hand, as "notsurprisedanymore" told you, if you're already here and you're working on an F or L visa, you're definitely treading in dangerous waters. Better back out carefully and leave not a trace behind.
