"It is a well known fact that China loses up to 70 per cent of its best students to other countries. That is, they do not return to China after the completion of their studies in the West. There may be many reasons for this: eg, percieved higher standard of living in the West, more freedom, but for many it could also be that these students are finally beginning to realize that the quality of "education" in China is way below that which they can obtain in Britain, the US, or Australia.
Certainly they will never become "educated" by wasting their time "studying" at China's D grade training centres with their D grade DOS an TA's. They may have also realized that China is never going to become "the world's biggest economic superpower" as many people have foolishly predicted. For a nation to become strong it must have decent educational standards and a proper rule of law and a transparent and fair legal system. China has none of this.
China to become NO 1 ? Nah, tell em they're dreamin!"

You speak of three (four) separate topics in your posting but speak as if they were one in the same. The standard of living being the first, quality of education being the second and finally yet importantly training centers, in this case for learning a foreign language.
The standard of living in China is below western standards now but is making great strides at a rapid pace to place itself as an equal among western nations in this category. The Olympics will attest to the strides China has taken since opening its doors to the west to showcase itself as a nation that is current and as up to date as its western neighbors. You will say it is a dog and pony show. Look at all the major cities on the coast. As the the average wage continues to rise the consumers are able to afford items that not too long ago seemed unattainable. Dont give me any crap about looking outside the big cities. I have been here over five years.

The majority of students who have travelled west to further their studies and job prospects stay only for the interim. They send money home on a regular basis to support their parents and relatives who have spent and given all to educate their children. Do not think for one moment that blood isnt thicker than water. They will return when the time is right.

The quality of education is improving thanks to people like you as western philosophy and technology is incorporated into their educational system.
As for training centers there is a need whether you care to realize it or not. You speak of training centers as a waste of time and that one who attends will never become educated. Apparently, you do not understand the role that a training center plays. If run properly a training center concentrates on one and one thing only English! You being a university lecturer dont, DO NOT!!!!!! Teach English. That is done by primary, secondary, private tutoring and training schools. You might refine or further a students English usage, but the groundwork was laid long before you took center stage.

(Four) You also imply that China will remain a third world country. You should read up on world history.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!!!
