Cambridge International Centre of Shanghai Normal University has come a long away from the last post however it is still beset with unprofessional practices. IT has stronger leadership now but there are still some issues it is still struggling and may never be able to overcome.

The school pays very well as it does not have to pay tax []. Most classes are also shared with a local (poorly paid) Chinese teacher which again saves the school money even if it is of questionable educational value, especially as almost all of these classes are taught in Chinese. The vast majority of teachers are unqualified. They resent and have established a culture of intimidation towards the very few qualified teachers that remain. Many state research shows that there is no difference between qualified and unqualified teachers but yet fail to back up their assertions with facts, and continue to ignore widely accepted evidence based pedagogy. Racial stereotyping such as Chinese students are only good at maths and science are continually used to justify unprofessional practices, and resist changes to pedagogy. Many so called teachers have shown themselves to be emotionally unstable and should not be working with young people.

All new qualified staff will be paid less than existing unqualified staff due to a grandfather clause. Your best efforts will be continually blocked by people who know nothing about education and to top it off they will be earning more money than you. Almost all subject leaders who are expected to instrument change are unqualified. The unqualified nature of the staff is proudly presented on the schools website.

The students are amazing and deserve better, however there are too many people making money at their expense.
