China invented paper, and for too many employers in China it is just paper, irregardless of whether or not there happens to be a contractual agreement written upon it. Keep spreading the word, and bring the shame upon China which China deserves for lying to every well-intentioned foreigner who wants to come here to share their knowledge. The fact is, China is a very racist and socially stratified society, though they like to pretend this is not true.

Charlie Chan is absolutely correct. I'm not alone in being pissed off whenever Chinese employers unashamedly break teaching contracts, never mind doing something much worse, namely try to enforce additional punitive measures on foreigners that were not even mentioned in the original contract.
