I agree. One problem in TEFL is that most TESOL programs don't try to 'weed out' unfit candidates early on. I guess this is because the courses aren't that long to begin with, and if an outfit does ask a candidate to leave early, the candidate would no doubt ask for at least a partial refund, something the program would have to come up with in certain countries. Yes, the industry needs some sort of 'regulatory control' or set of standards to eliminate the wild fluctuations in tuition and the wild fluctuations in the quality of graduates. Personally I think the burden of ensuring quality grads is squarely on the TESOL programs, given the absence of 'probation clauses' in teaching contracts.
