American English is a well-used oxymoron too; although, one of the best teachers I've known came from The Bronx, he was a tad difficult to understand sometimes but worth the effort since his command of English was superb- and he hadn't a degree to his name. Another chap from Cumberland was/is also a non-degree holder and a little difficult to understand occasionally; however, I came a poor third to both in command of grammar. It's the teacher who has scant knowledge of English that I can't defend.
