In the film, King George V1 has to give a radio broadcast to the nation and Commonwealth about the declaration of war with Germany. The final act of the film concentrates on the preparation and delivery of this speech. It's all truly believable, unless you know your British history when in fact this speech - one of the main themes of the film - was actually given by Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain!

And yet, this from today's edition of the Telegraph:-

(The film) concentrates instead on the Kings address to the nation hours after Neville Chamberlain had declared war against Germany. The scene is fairly absurd from a historical point of view Neville Chamberlain and Winston Churchill were not present and there were no cheering crowds outside Buckingham Palace but it is true that the broadcast was delivered without significant stammering, as were several of his wartime broadcasts. The movie seeks to attribute this entirely to Logues brilliance, which is Hollywoods prerogative, but the Kings growing sense of self-confidence, partly instilled by his wife, probably had just as much to do with it.

It would seem that Chamberlain and King George VI each gave a speech.
