In response to Linyi University (M. S. Lary)

Someone said they wanted specifics on Linyi University? Well, there are a few, but I reckon I can be as categorically brief as possible.

First, you don't know what you're really going to get when you come here. Certainly, you will get a few broken promises. What you are going to get depends greatly on your bluffing abilities and how much you want to play the games with the leadership.

You may or may not have to pay for your phone.
You may or may not have to pay for your water.
You may or may not have to pay for your Internet.
You may or may not have plumbing and A/C that works or is fixed in a timely manner when it breaks.
You may or may not be teaching English majors.
You may or may not receive your full salary if you arrive even one day after a pay period, or during Spring Festival.
You may or may not have a refrigerator ready for you when you arrive. You may or may not have to buy your own.
You may or may not have key access to your rooms.
You may or may not get a quality relationship with your employers based on honesty, trust, and a commitment to the welfare of the paying student body.
You may or may not have to spend up to an hour and a half riding the bus to and from the different campuses at the University.
You may or may not have kitchen facilties.
You may or may not get any assistance with cleaning things, like the kitchen.
You may or may not be able to wash your clothes when you want to.

You will not get a scenic university setting in the "hinterlands" of Linyi. The university has four major campuses, and believe me, they ain't in the woods.

You will get students who are wholly dissatisfied with the poor quality of the university, who will tell you that they feel like it is a prison, and who generally compare the level of instruction to the high school level.

You will get the desire, after about 2 or 3 months of working at the university, to have your feedback (such as this) broadcast to every single teacher in the world considering working here. Linyi University is a corrupted sort of enterprise operating under conditions of favoritism and, most alarmingly, a heavy weight of monetary debt. The leadership is unresponsive to feedback and has an agenda to hire many foreign teachers in an effort to raise its level of prestige in the eyes of the government. There is no quality assurance here.

Hope that sheds some light on what you are thinking about getting into.
