Take your passport people. China implemented a new policy which is now active requiring + ID on all passengers as tickets now have your name on them. You CANNOT use the ticket machines unless you have a Chinese ID card. That means you must deal with a ticket agent on bullet trains now too. Just got off a train and they required it.

Don't use your FEC as most rail people don't know what they are, and most of them never saw a green card. I wasted 30-mins trying to explain that to them today as the train rolled out and the less than trained rail cops tried to call it in to see if they could scan it and get my name on the ticket. They software they use is only for Chinese national ID cards. Anyone else, being your passport or you AIN'T getting on.
