Congrats on your pursuit of perfection. You know perfect people have contempt for us mere mortals since we're flawed. Therefore they only see us as threats to be contained and controlled 24/7. What with dealing with so many perfect chinese people you might even more more perfect than all of us combined. But for the rest of us who want to speak with someone more empathetic, you should probably take your ego elsewhere, since we don't always enjoy speaking with such flawless people.

On a side note, I keep in touch with my students and former colleagues as well, and I don't hear anything from them about china improving. I have yet to meet a chinese person who actually WILL SAY that they are grateful to the government and/or to their bosses for actually making their lives better. It's been cynicism, nonstop wherever I've traveled. Even the optimistic ones will always tamper their own joy with a "mei ban fa" when they themselves speak on social injustices.

But hey, you probably hang out with the elite of the elite. People who see life as a zero sum game between "haves" and "have nots". Do you see this as the utopian, utterly PERFECT version of communism?
