I agree with you Turnoi. A transition from the first world to the fourth world (in some places) would be quite a shock to
a new teacher.
I was in a small town like that once where there was little to do. It did not mine the people or the small town, nor my students. What drove me insane was the attitude of my co-workers. They had much hubris and did not care how they belittled me.
The attitude of co-workers has as much to do as sending people to small towns to see if the foreign teachers would stay.
