Using the excellent taobaofield guide (http://taobaofieldguide.com) I have been trying to create a taobao account.

First, won't accept my china unicom number.

Tried to use ICBC internet banking but as they only support ms windows and in Chinese, and I use ubuntu linux in English, that is a non starter.

Seems the easiest way is just to get a Chinese person to do this for me, but most at my present school are so incompetent (or lazy?) that they won't help me.

So...does anyone have any ideas how I can buy independently off taobao, post office idea seems more trouble than it is worth. Anyone using bank of China for internet banking? How are they?
