I have never studied computing in my life. I know very little about that subject, just what I've picked up by trial and error.
However, I thank you for posting technical information that will help other readers.
Just to add that after about an hour I managed to get the Chrome Radio Player add-on working. At first I downloaded the Foxfire plug in for Media Player for Chrome. But it didn't work. Then I uninstalled Winamp Lite and installed VLC Media Player. Finally, I located Radio Caroline from the list of radio stations for the Chrome Player. It plays without stopping, which it wouldn't via Shoutcast, either on the Shoutcast Radio Player at the bottom of the page or on Winamp. I'm using VLC Media Player to listen to BBCWS, Radio Australia Pacific service, RNZI, ABC National News, and Radio Paradise. For VOA (global live newsnow) only Windows Media player works for me. Now I can finish experimenting! As I type this, I'm listening to Caroline just after midnight local time here.

I also use Sopcast for movies and football as well as Veetle.

For music I use Baidu. Just type in the singer/group/ song title! you can even listen to complete albums!

For movies I use Baidu. You can even type in actors/actresses and movie titles!
