In response to Teaching in Tureky - ESL discussion (Monica and Fayaz www.conkaba.piczo.com GREAT Teachers!)

$600 is nothing. They usually pay you 600 to 800 British Pounds. So do not accept this job unless you just want to have expereince and no savings.

About visa, apply it before you move there. Those who want to be employed in Turkey need to obtain the work visa from the Turkish Embassy before they actually go to Turkey for working. In order to obtain the work visa, they should apply in person to the Embassy with the following documents:

1-An application form to be filled in (with a photograph attached)

2-Valid passport

3-Invitation letter from the employer

4-Work contract, if there is any

5-Documentary evidence regarding the financial status

6-Copies of education certificates connected with the job, to be assumed in Turkey

7-An explanatory letter from the organization/company/institution you are affiliated with.

8-Work permit to be obtained by the employer in the name of the prospective employee from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security or Turkish Prime Ministry, Undersecretariat of Treasury.

Upon receipt of the full documents, the application for work visa is referred to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara. 2-3 months are needed for the approval of the visa by the Ministry. Thereafter, upon receiving positive reply of the Ministry by a telegram, the work visa may be given by this Embassy in one or two days.

Persons applying for limited, unlimited and exceptional work permit and visa are requested to inform their employer firm/institution in Turkey that the originals of the forms and documents required by the Implementation Statute of the Law No. 4817 on the Work Permit of Foreigners have to be submitted by the employer firm/institution to the Turkish Ministry of Labour and Social Security within three days of the application for work permit and visa.

Following the issuance of the work visa, the family members (wife and children) of the applicant can also obtain their visas (visit) from this Embassy. On the other hand, the Consular Section of the Embassy would consider the issuance of an appropriate visa for the family members as per the requirements of the case according to the consular rules. The family members are not issued work visas.

I hope this helps!
