In response to Re Praise of the British (Somebody)

Considering that many students across the world study non-Shakespearean English literature to an even greater extent that most native speakers, I'll take your comments with a pinch of salt. They just seem to lap our supposedly non-existent culture up, don't they?

Then there's music. Britain still produces several influential bands and regularly creates new genres and sub-genres of music, Bar an odd bit of decent underground hip-hop and Daft Punk, the French have offered pretty much nothing in recent times.

The only significant contribution to language that a French person has made in recent times, was non-verbal. It was just body language and the original creator wasn't even born in France either.
