Asia, including China is different. Even average non-rich men in their mid forties or early fifties can snag women in their mid to late twenties.

A 45 or 50 year old man is "old" in the West. In Asia he is mature fruit, ripe for the picking.

In Russia, it is pretty normal for a manner to marry a woman who is half his age; especially if those men are the slightest bit wealthy.

What you said about Asia is quite true though, as far as I can see men are often expected to accumulate wealth over a number of years to be able to buy a house, therefore will wait to get married. Women however, will get married earlier as the biological clock is ticking and they will require a secure and safe environment to bring up children.
