Away from the HK border area in Guangdong or cities well served by international airports with regular flights to HK, you don't actually get quite as many guys doing a huge portfolio of part-time teaching jobs because flying back every month or 3 to get a new tourist/business visa is an unnecessary and expensive pain in the arse.

There are however, really shit companies that known to take absolutely anybody and will let foreigners get away with anything. Shit foreigners are attracted to these places like flies round shit.

As to your first sentence, I recently knew of an english guy in his late thirties with no degree, but a fake one printed up in Hong Kong, that managed to get a Z visa for a primary school job in Beijing. His diploma in I think Drama was real, but he had no real degree, he even admitted so himself...whether the schools or PSB actually check or not, on that I do not know. I do know that countries like South Korea require degree transcripts (I have mine in digital&hard copies), so perhaps that is one way that China could check, or at least the PSB could....if they could be arsed to take a break from QQ games and smoking that is.

True, on the second paragraph, I've known guys working for themselves in Shenzhen, even earning a lot of money, and they refuse to move elsewhere in China. A lot like the convenience of being able to "de-PRC-ize" in HK I suppose, likewise Macau for Zhuhai. I actually prefer Macau over HK, even if it has become one giant casino resort building site, a lot more portuguese character, and they seem to preserve their colonial past, unlike in HK where they seem to want to tear it down and build giant erections...no joke!!
