Rubbish, rubbish:
Dictation is for the rubbish bin of history, it is rarely used in ESL. And why do you use a Chinese term here? To show what? Pretence, pretence, pretence....

Hahaha! your responses are definitely testosterone-loaded.

I will concede that dictation and its use is sadly neglected in English teaching. Now part of the reason for this is where the teachers come from. You should be aware that a great deal of benefit for the students delivered by dictation is pronunciation. Upon command student or students will repeat what has been dictated. The problem with that is if the teacher has a Kenyan or soviet-style accent. That wouldn't do at all otherwise one's Tianjin students would all sound like little Africans or Russians. Hence the popularity of tape or discs played in the classroom for students to listen to, not recorded by the actual teacher, but often filched from that, dare I say it- Internet Resource. Your teacher, and essentially your native-born English speaking teacher must have a good enough accent for you to emulate with impunity; otherwise it's a pre-recorded disc for you. Does that make good sense to you?
