Mrs. Beard holds a master’s degree in TESOL, a bachelor’s degree in English, a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, and an associate’s degree in liberal arts. She also holds current state teaching licenses in ESL and English, and she is fully bilingual in Spanish. Her experience includes teaching undergraduate Intensive English Program courses, secondary school ELD and sheltered English, and integrated adult ESL courses. Helping speakers of other languages attain proficiency in English in order to achieve their education and career goals has been a passion of hers as she has volunteered as an ESL teacher in Haiti, Thailand, Hong Kong, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. She has also studied and traveled in Puerto Rico, Portugal, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, England, and the Czech Republic. Currently, in addition to hosting international students, she teaches weekend ESL certification courses for teachers wanting to earn an ESL credential through Oxford Seminars.
