By:Shivani Ahuja

Kerala is a place bestowed with abundance of beauty and natural treasures. This state acknowledged as the 'God's Own Country' has splendid destinations that show the vibrant culture of this land. All around the year, a number of festivals and races are conducted in the state showing the zest that the people of Kerala live with. These festivities are not only a boost to 'Kerala Tourism', but they also add life to the routine lives of the locals.

Kerala holidays are one of the best in entire India. They offer an array of experiences to all the tourists, one of which is taking a ride on, or staying in the houseboats of Kerala. These houseboats are the revamped versions of the traditional 'Kettuvallams' that were made by carefully tying together of numerous wooden planks. Not a single nail is used in making such boats that are prepared with unbelievable skills and meticulous hard work. Now a days, these houseboats are luxuriously furnished to provide all the comforts to the guests, but they still maintain a traditional touch in their décor. They sail you across the beautiful landscapes of Kerala showing you the lush green paddy fields, rustic temples and homes and ancient Chinese fishing nets. All these panoramas together with the serene environment of Kerala backwaters drift you to a surreal space.

Other utopian feature of Kerala is its picture perfect beauty. The natural expanses comprising of palm-fringed Kerala backwaters and beaches make this place an ideal retreat for nature lovers. A quite evening spent at a beach in Kerala becomes an entrancing experience when the sky seems to be catching fire with the setting sun in the distant horizon. A barefoot walk on the soft sand of the beaches erases all the cobwebs from your mind. An idea of a perfect holiday does not here, as the Keralan resorts add to the experiences of this tranquil vacation by offering some beautiful lodgings beside the wet expanses, letting you catch your own meal of the day, right at your doorstep or relax in the soothing environment.

To add some spice of adventure to the holiday in Kerala, there is an option of visiting the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. A jeep Safari into the jungles of Periyar shows you the diverse flora and wildlife of the state. This green expanse of tropical evergreen and semi-evergreen forest has undulating hills and valleys housing animals like Barking deer, Tiger, Mouse deer, Nilgiri Tahr, Elephants, etc. One can also take a boat safari on the Periyar River that runs across the national park giving glimpse of animals visiting the banks of the river to drink water. These rare sights give once in a lifetime experiences to the tourists. There are many other forest reserves in the state that are animal and bird watchers' paradises giving ample of opportunities to the travelers to watch their varied 'admired species' hovering around at ease.

Hence, a Kerala holidays is a mix of tranquility on one hand and adventure on the other, and a tourist can decide the proportions of both these elements to suit one's choices and ideas. To know more about Kerala, please visit the site http://www.indiabackwaters.com
