By:John Newcomb

Jaipur is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. Situated around 250 kms from New Delhi, Jaipur is the capital of the Rajasthan. This city has a long and chequered history as the former stronghold of Rajput kings and thus, has a very royal aura to it. Jaipur is popularly also called the 'Pink City' on account of the liberal use of the pink color in its architecture.

If you heading over to India, do make a point to stop by this lovely city. Once you make it here, remember to visit these places:

1. Amer Fort
This fort is situated on the outskirts of Jaipur city on a steep hill. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. A beautiful fort cum palace, this place is brimming with history and grandeur. Don't forget to take an elephant ride up to the fort. It will be an experience worth remembering.

2. Hawa Mahal
Literally translated as 'The Palace of Wind', this little palace housed the king's many queens. It has tons and tons of windows in the front to permit the flow of air (hence the name). Located in the heart of the city, you can't afford to miss the Hawa Mahal.

3. Nahargarh Fort
This old fort is one of the favorite hangout spots of Jaipur's youth. You'll get lost in the grandeur of the old building and feel as if you have time traveled into the past. A must see for all history or architecture fans.

4. Birla Mandir
This temple was built by an influential Indian business family in the heart of the city. A huge white marble structure, this is a favorite of Jaipur city folk.

5. Johri Bazaar
This marketplace is located in the old city. It's name literally translates to "The Jeweler's Market", and is a heaven for anybody looking to buy traditional Indian jewelery.
