10 Useful Travel Tips to Make Your India Journey Safe and Enjoyable
By:Caroline Hawthorn

India journey can be carefully planned to suit any traveler's budget ranging from staying at the pompous extravagant hotels during your travel to Hyderabad, Agra or Jaipur to backpacking around India for an unforgettable trip with friends and family you will carry in your hearts forever.

India is a country of contrasts offering some of the most amazing and at times shocking experiences you are not likely to encounter anywhere else in the world. Luxury borders with poverty, aromas of amazing incense fragrances are mixed with the stench of street wastes. Prepare yourself for an amazing India travel experience by reading some helpful tips on how to make your India getaway enjoyable and ward off unpleasant situations one might come by while traveling in India.

1. Drinking water is a huge problem during your whole India journey, so keep some water disinfecting solutions handy to keep yourself healthy. Buy water only in sealed water bottles since some crafty Indian swindlers will recycle old water bottles in the most unsanitary fashion by refilling them with plain tap water that can make you sick.

2. Buying foods from street vendors is putting yourself at risk of a serious food poisoning or might upset your stomach if it is not prepared for some unusual spices or fruits. Try eating at the hotel restaurants or reliable establishments recommended by your travel agent. Wash all fruits or vegetables with sanitized or bottled water and peel before eating to virtually eliminate contamination risks for yourself and your family.

3. Before you set on your India trip, check with your doctor for vaccinations he might recommend you get before you go to India.

4. Pack some comfortable and conservative clothing for your India journey preferably made with natural cotton or linen fibers that are able stand to the heat and dust of Indian climate. Also wearing too much jewelry might attract attention of beggars or robbers.

5. Do not put all of your money in one spot, spread it around your clothing, hidden pouches, socks or even shoes to keep some in case of unfortunate robbery. This will ensure that you will have some money left to get to your hotel.

6. Avoid giving money to street beggars since most of them belong to the professional begging business that subsequently funds many illegal activities.

7. Bring some basic medicines with you since it might be difficult if not impossible to pick up even basic Tylenol or Benadryl on your India trip. Bring some band-aids, sanitizers and antihistamines along with a high quality bug-repellent.

8. Be careful about hiring any personal tour guides that might approach you on the streets and offer their services, they might just be swindlers that will try luring you into strange places and robbing you or simply ripping you off.

9. Traveling in India will be filled with fantastic shopping opportunities like jewelry, incenses, pottery, paintings and many more. Do not feel pressured to buy anything even if a seller seems frantic and agitated to sell something, walk away. Bargain and compare prices everywhere.

10. Try to avoid street taxis and hire only cars that are recommended to you by your travel agent or hotel you are staying at.

We hope that these tips do not discourage you from taking a trip to India that offers so many beautiful places to see and visit.
