Tribal World of India

India is a bouquet of several distinct communities and their culture. The entire population of our country is a perfect blend of these colorful communities. Among all of them, tribal people are the real treasures of our countries.

India has all total of 437 tribal groups of total population more than 20 million. Each of these tribal communities showcases their own distinct cultural and physical aspect. A tribal tour to India will enable the vacationers to peep into their world.

Some famous tribal states of India are

Orissa: Orissa is a predominantly tribal land and comprises of 62 tribal communities. Jeypore, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Gopalpur, Kalahandi, Naurangpur, and Malkanigri are some of the famous places which has abundance of tribal population. Some of the unique tribal groups of Orissa are Gond Halba, Gond Muria, Bondo, Mundas, Saora, Dhruba, Mahali, Santals. Koya, Juang, Bhuyan, Praja and Lohara.

Chattisgarh: This is a newly formed state of India which is also well known for its tribal community. Various districts of the state like Ratnapur, Kanker, Bastar, Kawardha, Kondagaon and Narayanpur have wide range of tribal communities such as Baiga, Bison-Horn Maria, Abhuj maria, Muria, Halbaa, Bhatra, Dhurvaa etc. All of them has different traditions. Generally they gets married in their blood relation.

Madhya Pradesh: Famed as 'heart of India', Madhya Pradesh is also a tribal state. This land is home to some indigenous tribal communities like Gonds, Bhils, Kols, Murias, Baigas, Korkus, Kamaras, Marias and Oraons. They are mostly found in some of the tribal districts of the state like Dhar, Seoni, Chhindwara, Jhabua etc. Earlier these tribal people were mainly nomadic but now they are engaged in shifting cultivation for their livelihood.

North-east India: The virgin land of north-east India is another fantastic destination for tribal tour. The four North-eastern state such as Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Mizoram are generally dominated by tribal communities. 90% of their population is tribal. Remaining states like Assam, Sikkim, Tripura, and Manipur has less tribal people. Some of the important tribal clan of this region are Adis, Apatanis, Nyishi, Angami, Ao, Rengma, Khasi, Garo, Lushis and many more.
