Incredible India - Jaipur, Pink Heart of Rajasthan
By:Sam M Bailey

If you are in Rome, do as Romans do; if you are in Delhi visiting India, you make a beeline for Jaipur aka Pink City, the capital, and the gateway to Rajasthan. And Rajasthan or Rajputana as you must know by now is the Camelot of India: a land of courageous men and diva-esque ladies which has spawned countless legends of the bold and the beautiful.

Jaipur is connected equally well by roads and trains and flights to Delhi and all other Indian prominent cities; however it is the best place for renting a car and go-to if you are in Delhi as it helps you to enjoy certain spots on the outskirts of the city like Chokhi Dhani. ('Chokhi Dhani', incidentally is a resort that gives you a flavor of old time Rajputana right from its mouth-licking culinary delicacies to its swaying cultural programs).

Jaipur proper has a couple of must-see attractions like the City Palace, the Hawa Mahal and of course the Jantar Mantar. The City palace complex was the seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur, the head of the Kachwaha Rajput clan. It comprises several dream like palaces, gardens, and temples.

The Hawa Mahal is an extension of the Royal City Palace with a difference. It is basically an uber faade behind which the ladies from royal household used to sit and spy on whatever is going down below. Designed in the form of the crown of Krishna, the Hindu god, its unique five-storey exterior bears a strong resemblance to the honeycomb of the beehive with its 953 tiny windows called jharokhas that are decorated with intricate lattice work. The Jantar Mantar is an observatory comprising fourteen major geometric devices for measuring time, predicting eclipses, and tracking other astral events.

The magnificent hilltop Amber Fort is located 11 kms north of Jaipur. Founded by Raja Man Singh, the fort got its finishing touches by his descendants Jai Singh I and Sawai Jai Singh II. Raja Man Singh was a legendary general in the army of the Emperor Akbar. His Hindu lineage and ties with the Mughal shaped the distinctive Hindu and Muslim blend of the architecture of the fort.

Apart from the Central museum, Jaipur has several forts, gardens and temples in and around the city premises. However, we recommend you one thing especially even if you are not fond of shopping. Check out the Bagdu prints and the Bandhni textiles - they are a treat to the eyes!

So if you want to feel like a maharaja and savor the royal treatment, don't forget to visit Rajasthan http://www.incredibleindiatravels.in/rajasthan-tourism-holiday-packages.html.
