Goa Tour Is Best Enjoyed In Margao
By:Sanjog

Ever wished to see the kaleidoscope of Goan rural life? Visit Margao, the headquarters of the South Goa district, located in the Salcete taluka. Dotted with old Portuguese churches, fine country houses decked with dark rosewood furniture, a number of art galleries and various artifact centers, Margao is a popular tourist destination. The second largest city in Goa after Vasco da Gama, it is a bustling commercial and industrial center as well.

The word Margao was derived from 'Mathgram', which literally means 'the village of temples.' After the Portuguese invasion, a number of majestic churches and palaces were established here. But the small city retained its age old Hindu cultures and traditions.

Prime Attractions

Margao has a flourishing tourism industry because of its opulent churches, scenic beaches and stately mansions. Colva beach lies at a distance of about 6 km from Margao. The city also provides a gateway to Benaulim, Cavelossim, Majorda, Varca and Velsao Beach.

Sat Burzam Ghor, which means- the 'House of Seven Roofs', is a famous attraction in Margao. This magnificent mansion was built during the Portugal rule. Religious minded people and those who are a die hard fan of Portuguese architectural patterns, should visit the Monte church (located on top of Monte hill), and the Stately Church Of The Holy Spirit (located in the heart of a disheveled but picturesque colonial enclave). The Monte church is locked most of year but the hill offers a bird's eye view of the entire city, which is undoubtedly superb. Apart from that, the Stately Church Of The Holy Spirit is a 1675 Portuguese structure and is considered as one of the finest examples of late-Baroque architectures in Goa.

Authentic Goan delicacies can be tried out at various food stalls near the beaches. When it comes to shopping, people love to buy crochet work items, carved furniture, shell work, bamboo work, brassware, curios, old coins asnd trinkets etc. The best of such items and handicrafts should be bought from Goa Handicrafts Industries Development Corporation emporium in Margao or a few other registered handloom centres in Goa.

Margao is a key destination in Goa travel guide. While talking about Goa tourist places, your Margao trip http://www.goaindiatourism.org/cities-of-goa/margao-goa.html takes you to the ancient churches, lively Portuguese culture and serene beaches. Goa India tourism is best suited for rejuvenating your senses.
