Newcastle Language Systems is a new online language education start-up founded by a professional linguist and educator who, like you, has grown tired of being devalued by schools and middlemen. Thus, it is a FAIR TRADE company, in that we pay all of our independent contractors an equal fee of $22.50 USD per 50-minute session. Moreover, there is the opportunity to earn an additional $7.50 USD per session by providing mentoring service to our clients. We are currently seeking educators who have or meet the following requirements:

U.S. Citizenship
CELTA / TEFL certification (120-hour course minimum)
The ability to speak in or switch to the General American/Broadcast English accent
Extensive experience or an advanced degree in any of the following fields:

Lingustics
Applied Linguistics
Second Language Education
English
Business
Marketing
Management
Accounting
Finance
Real Estate
Information Technology
Computer Science
Hospitality Services
Travel Services
Sales and Customer Service
Healthcare
Medicine
Fields related to any of the above.

Additionally, successful candidates should have:

an extremely open, warm, and friendly disposition
a great sense of humor
a wide range of interests and the ability to converse on almost any subject
the ability to role-play everyone from a forgetful waiter to an irascible CEO
the ability to explain and illustrate English accent and dialectal differences to students
a keen insight into western culture and psychology, especially in business

Essentially, we are seeking worldly contractors who, like us, entered second-language education as a second career and are therefore able to offer our clients not only English lessons, but mentoring services particular to their field of expertise.

Regarding technical and logistical requirements, due to the unreliability of Skype connections, our independent contractors must have a Zoom Pro account and a stable internet connection. After ten completed sessions per month, the educator will receive a $16 USD bonus, which, at the discretion of the educator, may be used to cover the cost of the Zoom account, and that’s whether you use it for Newcastle Language Systems or to connect to any private students you may have. (Did we mention we were a Fair Trade company?) In return, we do expect our educators to be professionally dressed and have a neutral or professional background during sessions. Additionally, we expect dependability and punctuality.

Newcastle Language Systems is not a listing service for self-titled “instructors” whose only qualification is that they are native speakers of the language. Therefore, our contractors are not on a race to the bottom, competing with each other to offer the lowest price.

As already mentioned, the company is completely new and at this time we are still assembling our first team of educators. Indeed, we probably won’t be booking lessons until April or May.

In this first phase of operation, we are seeking 25 educators, and at this time, contractors located in Europe and Asia are highly encouraged to contact us. However, contractors able to service students on the US west coast should also apply.
