Whether you are traveling alone, with your family, friends or your special someone, Japan is definitely one of the unique destinations that you can go to. Let this article point you to the best places to see in Japan especially if this is your first time to visit.

In case you are not yet familiar with it, Japan is an archipelago located in the far eastern side of Asia. It is located east of China and above Taiwan. Japan's shores face the China Sea and the great Pacific Ocean. It has an estimated population of over 127 million scattered all over its 6,852 islands.

Listed below are some of the best places to visit in Japan almost all year round.

Mt. Fuji

Standing at 12,389 feet Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in this country. While it is still considered an active volcano, however it last erupted in 1707. Mt. Fuji is a popular landmark and one of the primary icons which most foreigners are familiar with. So what can you do there aside from stare at its magnificence? You can climb it just like the hundreds of thousands of climbers that do the same every year. In fact in 2009 alone, an estimated 300,000 people climbed Mt. Fuji. The best months to climb are from July to August.

Itsukushima Shrine

It is popularly known as Miyajima. It is a Shinto shrine that can be found on the Itsukushima island. The shrine has been designated as a National Treasure by the Japanese government and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This shrine is actually a complex with the first of its establishments erected in the 6th century. It is a unique sight to see because it was built on the bay so that it would appear to be floating in the sea.

Hot springs in Japan

The country is rich in hot springs and bathing in these springs has been considered both a tradition and as a healthy habit by the people. Onsen is the Japanese term for hot springs and among the most popular of these are: Kusatsu, Hakone, Ikaho, Minakami, Kinugawa, Nikko, Shibu, Hanamaki, Toyako, Noboribetsu, Kinosaki, Shirahama, Kurokawa, and Kirishima. All in all there are over a hundred of these springs.

Cherry blossom festivals

Japan is also very known for its cherry blossom trees and the best months to go to experience the festivals organized around these trees are from March to May although in other regions of the country there are festivals being held from January to June. You can watch traditional Japanese performing arts and taste the various local foods being sold by the vendors.

Without a doubt Japan is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and also among the most diversed in terms of its culture and natural sights.
